It’s about to be a phenomenal week in American history with a newly elected president who is inspiring millions if not more across the nation and the globe. The idea of hope is one that has been desperately needed by everyone and the re-commitment to service is incredibly inspiring for so many of us who work in the social sector.
Barack Obama has tried to prepare us all for the coming months if not years when we are going to have to work together to pull ourselves and our country out of the current, glum situation. I couldn’t think of a more important time for service from volunteers.
Obama’s theory and strategy for enabling this kind of action is inspiring and I hope beyond hope that it is effective. While it is clear that his charisma, intelligence, and critical thinking have brought him a great distance and won the hearts of millions. Can these same qualities deliver solutions to these times of crisis?
I am and will be watching and listening anxiously to see what the next days, weeks, months, and years bring. I have hope again for our sector and for our future. I don’t know if it is only Barack Obama or if it is the energy of everyone around me, but I am running with it.
Let’s use some of the Obama campaign’s successes with community organizing, leveraging social media, and more to deliver a robust and effective social sector that serves so many domestically and nationally.
